AMM18- Karen Bass Recall Effort - America Matters Media
We begin with a discussion on Germany’s military spending and infrastructure plans. The incoming German chancellor has announced plans to increase military funding and establish a €500 billion infrastructure fund. This move comes amid concerns about U.S. commitment to European security and the need for stronger defense investments.
Next, we discuss the IRS workforce reduction plans. The agency is set to cut up to half of its workforce through layoffs, attrition, and buyouts. With 90,000 employees currently on staff, 7,000 probationary workers have already been laid off. The workforce is primarily made up of people of color and women, raising concerns about the impact of these cuts.
The conversation then shifts to domestic politics with the recall effort against Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. Critics argue that Bass mishandled the Palisades fire by being absent while traveling in Ghana. The recall campaign needs 330,000 signatures within four months to trigger an election. While her staff calls it an extreme right-wing stunt, many residents believe her response to the crisis was inadequate.
We also cover a major scandal involving Los Padrinos juvenile hall. Thirty probation officers are accused of encouraging and facilitating fights among detained minors. Between July and December 2023, 140 minors were involved in 69 recorded fights. Video evidence shows officers laughing and watching as the fights unfold. Due to safety concerns, officials are considering closing the facility.
The video also explores the high cost of living in California. Leo Zacky argues that people need at least $100,000 a year to survive in Los Angeles. He points out rising costs, including $1,600 per month for a small studio apartment.
