“LET’S GRAB LUNCH” IS A LEADERSHIP DECLARATION AND A FADING TRADITION
“The idea of comfort and its relationship to the familiar is so subtle it’s almost subconscious. The nostalgic feel of gathering around the family dinner table to share a meal and recap the day together is a lost art. As I see the list of restaurants closing their doors, some of them for good, I recognize a similar quality in most of them. ATMOSPHERE. The family dining model, which was made popular in places like Kentucky Fried Chicken Cracker Barrel, Red Lobster, Denny’s, and many more. This no small thing. Culture has shifted. Traditions have been abandoned. Expectations are vanishing. There is an economic impact for sure. Learning the art of good service, the value of a first job, and the opportunities to start an entrepreneurial venture with some sense of security; gone with the closures. These are both warning signs and reminders like the garage door entry from the alley, the vanishing of the front stoop or wrap around porch, the soda counter or malt shop all of these are a diminishing of the strength of community. Many locals don’t even gather for church anymore - we can just watch online. It takes the devastation of a storm or months of mandated ‘house arrest’ styled confinement for communities to come together face to face. Please, do not relegate leadership, community, communication to AI bots and virtual meetings. Remember what it means to gather around a campfire and share stories of freedom.”
